If you are learning Spanish, music can be one of the fastest ways to feel grammar in your body. “Fotografía” is full of emotion, but it also gives learners something practical: repeated present-tense structures that are perfect for focused practice.

In this post, you will practice the Spanish present tense. You will do it with a cloze activity built from lyric lines, using present-tense verbs with a simple format. Don’t worry, you will be given a word bank, and then a fully completed version so you can self-check.

Goal: practice the present tense while learning how Spanish expresses longing and distance through everyday verbs.

The emotional core (and the grammar you can use)

Across the lyrics, the speaker returns again and again to the same idea: love persists even when the person is absent. Photographs become a substitute presence. The result is a loop of searching, seeing, and feeling.

For language learners, that repetition is gold. It helps you remember present-tense patterns like:

  • yo busco / te busco (I search / I look for you)
  • te veo (I see you)
  • me siento a ver (I sit to watch/see)
  • te llamo (I call you)

Cloze activity (Spanish present tense)

Instructions: Replace each blank with the correct verb from the word bank. Focus on present tense forms.

Lyric cloze (present tense verbs removed):

  • veo
  • busco
  • buscas
  • llamo
  • llamas
  • estás
  • vas

  • amabas
  • amo

Note: Some blanks require a compound meaning like “me siento a ver.” Use the verb form that matches the blank.

Completed version (correct present tense answers)

Check your work:

Quick learner tip: present tense patterns to remember

  • te busco (I look for you) vs te llamo (I call you)
  • te vas (you leave) and no estás (you are not)
  • me siento a ver (I sit to watch/see) as a stable phrase for actions in the present
  • debo decir (I must say) for “deber” meaning obligation or conclusion

Try it again (mini practice)

Rewrite just these three lines in your notebook using the same present tense idea. Keep the structure, change only the subject:

  • Yo busco / Tú buscas / Él busca
  • Yo llamo / Tú llamas / Él llama
  • Yo veo / Tú ves / Él ve
