World Language Class Project: Hotel & Travel Review Project

Engage students with this comprehensive world language hotel & travel review project. Learners review essential travel vocabulary, plan a trip, design a group itinerary, and create dialogues for hotel reservations or check-ins. Includes extension activities, cultural elements, and useful vocabulary lists for meaningful practice in the target language.

Step 1: Vocabulary Check-In

Begin by reviewing your hotel and travel vocabulary in the target language.

  • Use the vocabulary resources provided to practice terms related to hotels, travel, and transportation.
  • Complete vocabulary review activities or quizzes in class centers.
  • Create flashcards for each vocabulary word and quiz yourself:
    • Make two piles: words you know and words you need to review.
    • Focus on the review pile.
    • Practice with a partner using the prompt: “How do you say…?”
    • Take turns quizzing each other with 5 words at a time or go through the full set.

Step 2: Plan Your Trip

  1. Choose a destination — any real or imaginary place in the world.
  2. Find a hotel in that location (real or invented).
  3. Research transportation options: plane, train, bus, car, etc.
  4. Select six activities you would do at your destination.
  5. Find three restaurants where you could eat.

Step 3: Create Your Group Itinerary

Work with your group to create a detailed travel itinerary that includes:

  • Hotel information
  • Transportation plans
  • Daily activities
  • Restaurant visits

You may design your itinerary in Google Slides, PowerPoint, or as a printable poster.

Step 4: Dialogues and Practice

Write and practice a dialogue in the target language for making a hotel reservation or checking into a hotel.

Then:

  • Memorize and perform your dialogue without reading directly from the script.
  • Include culturally appropriate greetings, polite expressions, and travel vocabulary.

Step 5: Extension Options

Choose one or more of the following extension activities:

  • Watch a short video about hotels or travel in the target language.
  • Complete a vocabulary crossword or word search to reinforce terms.
  • Write a short paragraph or essay describing a trip (real or imaginary).
  • Challenge Option: Add a section about hotel complaints or problems in the target language for extra practice.
