How to relearn French: talk about yourself

how to relearn french

Learning to speak about yourself is a great way to build confidence in your skills. Use this activity to relearn French or use it with your students to help them relearn French. It is a great early school year review activity.

When I was a young teacher, I had the privilege of attending a day with Harry Wong, author of The First Days of School. He has loads of wisdom to share with teachers. One of the many things that he said that truly resonated with me is investing 10% of your life outside of school in improving your repertoire and skills as a teacher.

If you have a teacher in your life, you know it is WAY more than 10% of time outside of school that teachers invest. One extra time period that I always invest is the start of our summer break to create activities and materials. It is a fun way to “work”. I can put my feet up, stay in pyjamas and work while having coffee and no deadlines. I enjoy the time I have to invent creative learning activities. Also, there’s almost no time to get creative when school is on with so many other things to do.

Here is an activity I created some years ago to review beginning Spanish to learn to speak about yourself. This has now been adapted to help you relearn French. I added some English translation for support.

I suggest using a notebook and writing this out. This serves as a great tool to review vocabulary. You can then rehearse your script. Knowing how to say enough words and phrases is the key to move from Novice/A to Intermediate/B. This a fast, fun and free way to relearn how to speak French
