¡Hola! Bonjour! Konnichiwa! Buongiorno! Anyonghasseyo!
Dear World Language Teachers: here is a template to use to do your lesson plans.
Course: Subject Name Date
ACTFL Standards (change these to your standards if different): Communication, Connections, Culture, Comparisons, Communities
Communicative Objective:
- State the specific communicative objective(s) of the lesson
Modes of Communication Practiced (Presentational, Interpretive, Interpersonal)
Materials:
- List the materials, resources, and technology required for the lesson. Link materials anywhere in the lesson where you will use them. This works well for access for absent students as well.
Instructional Sequence:
- Routines: Use very predictable routines for beginners, such as the calendar and weather. Use more flexible routines for intermediate students.
- Warm-up Activity: Describe a short activity or discussion to engage students and activate prior knowledge. Is this a video or reading (some type of input)? Is this an interactive chat activity?
- Introduction:
- Provide an overview of the lesson and its relevance to students. This is best done as a short, comprehensible input overview of the lesson.
- Presentation:
- Deliver the content or concept to be taught, using appropriate teaching strategies.
- Include visual aids, examples, or demonstrations to enhance understanding.
- Guided Practice:
- Engage students in practicing the new skill or applying the concept.
- Provide step-by-step instructions and offer support as needed.
- Independent Practice:
- Assign activities or tasks that allow students to apply what they have learned.
- Include a variety of exercises to cater to different learning styles. This can be as simple as product choice.
- Closure:
- Summarize the main points of the lesson.
- Encourage questions and address any misconceptions.
Assessment:
- Specify how the student’s understanding will be assessed.
- Outline the criteria or rubric for evaluating student work.
Extension Activities:
- Suggest additional activities or resources for students to explore the topic further.
You can display the first page, but this part is just for teachers.
Type in the target language day and date at the top to sneak some input into the lesson.
Consider keeping a running document for each unit/term/quarter/trimester/semester. Essentially, organized chunks that are easy to manage.
Copy and paste lessons for students when they are absent, or for your online classroom management.
Differentiation:
- [Describe strategies to support students with diverse needs or learning styles]
- [Include modifications or extensions for advanced learners or students requiring additional support]
