Cucharas (Spoons): Verb Conjugation Game
This fast-paced game reinforces Spanish verb conjugations—Cucharas! Students practice accuracy and quick recall of verb forms while having fun in a competitive group setting.
How to Play:
- Divide students into small groups, seated around a table. In the middle of the table, place spoons (one fewer than the number of players).
- Each player receives a card, each displaying a verb conjugation.
- One player begins by picking up a card from a draw pile, deciding quickly if it helps form a complete set of conjugations. They then discard a card face-down to their left. Players continuously pass cards, rapidly trying to collect four matching conjugations (e.g., all forms of “hablar” in present tense).
- When a player completes their set, they quietly grab a spoon. Once others notice, they quickly grab remaining spoons. The player left without a spoon earns a letter from the word “CUCHARAS.”
- The game continues until someone spells “CUCHARAS.”
You will need spoons (I like recyclable ones).
Note: These game sets don’t include the vosotros forms.
Verb conjugation sets:
-ar, -er, -ir, stem-change irregular present tense, preterit tense, subjunctive, imperfect, conditional, present progressive, future (19 games in all).
