I recently found a fun tool to create text messages. I find this particularly fun to create warm ups and reading activities for novice-level language learners. You can create a fake conversation and have your students act it out or answer comprehension questions. Here is an example:
You can even have the kids generate their own handwritten messages and you combine them to make a longer one. It is fun to see who said what. You can even add images to the messages.
I like this as well as it allows me to expose the students to lots of relevant, authentic language used in everyday text messages (i.e. tqm= te quiero mucho).
