Are you French?: Conversations for Beginners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Welcome to Everyday French Conversations for Beginners Week 4 Episode 5. Today we’ll ask people where are they from, so let’s begin with: Are you French?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcome to today’s episode. Janina wants to share an old recording of her and Joel to hear a greeting as well as to understand where people are from. When you meet someone for the first time, you’ll each want to know where you’re from. Listening to this recording will also illustrate how important it is to record yourself as you’re learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re just starting in a language, record yourself for a minute or two at a time, two to three times per week, even if you’re just talking to yourself. This will get you over the nervousness and the mistakes that come when learning a language. Do it every day (or 3-4 times per week), and date your recording so that you hear your progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(04:00) Hello, what’s your name? Joel. It’s nice to meet you. Likewise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(05:00) Starting the conversation in French from the beginning again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(07:00) Greeting anyone any time of day… and then, there are two ways to greet someone in the evening. We also learned how to informally ask a question to someone your age (a peer)… what’s your name? My name is…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(08:10) Where are you from? I’m from… I was born in… Where is your mother from? My mother was born in… Nice to meet you. Likewise. What’s your father’s name? My father’s name is…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(10:30) She was born in… You can be formal, plural, or be singular (one person) and be informal. She, he, goodbye. See you tomorrow. See you later. See you later in the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(12:40) “Adieu” means you won’t see the person again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
