about Yourself<\/h2>\n

Learning to speak about yourself is a great way to build confidence in your skills.<\/p>\n

When I was a young teacher, I had the privilege of attending a day with Harry Wong, author of\u00a0The First Days of School.\u00a0<\/em>He has loads of wisdom to share with teachers. One of the many things that he said that truly resonated with me is investing 10% of your life outside of school in improving your repertoire and skills as a teacher.<\/p>\n

If you have a teacher in your life, you know it is WAY more than 10% of time outside of school that teachers invest. One extra time period that I always invest is the start of our summer break to create activities and materials. It is a fun way to “work”. I can put my feet up, stay in pyjamas and work while having coffee and no deadlines. I enjoy the time I have to invent creative learning activities. Also, there’s almost no time to get creative when school is on with so many other things to do.<\/p>\n

Here is an activity I created some years ago to review beginning Spanish to learn to speak about yourself. I added some English translation for support.<\/p>\n

Get a notebook and personalize this. I find that writing things out by hands improves retention. You can then use that as a script to rehearse and memorize. Firstly, the activity will help you speak Spanish about this theme quickly. Next, once you have memorized and learned enough words and phrases, you will move into the B\/intermediate level. A hallmark of this level is being able to create with language.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
